On Thursday, our DNS settings for the maropost.com domain, including all sub-domains (*.maropost.com), were inadvertently reset. This caused intermittent outages in our API and UI applications.
Summary:
The issue occurred due to a configuration change in the DNS which inadvertently reset our name servers. As a result, maropost.com and its sub-domains were unable to resolve to their correct destinations, leading to intermittent service disruptions.
To resolve the issue, we promptly rolled back the change and restored the original DNS settings. DNS propagation took approximately one hour, after which services returned to normal.
Timeline:
08:15-08:30 AM ET: Configuration change in GoDaddy led to DNS settings reset.
08:30 AM - 09:45 AM ET: Intermittent outages experienced due to DNS resolution failures.
09:45 AM EDT: DNS settings were restored and propagation began.
09:45 AM - 10:45 AM ET: Services returned to normal as DNS propagation completed.
Impact:
Affected Services: Websites hosted on *.maropost.com domains, Web Interface, APIs, Streaming APIs. Unaffected Services: Campaigns, email opens/clicks, journeys, and automated imports/exports.
Additional Note: Campaigns sent during this outage may have experienced a higher number of soft bounces. However, these emails were delivered successfully once the DNS issue was resolved.
